![]() For this reason, many PC gamers actually prefer wired controllers over wireless ones. ![]() Unlike with a console, when you're gaming at your PC, you're most likely sitting at your desk. If you're on a tight budget but still want pro-level features, the Elite Series 2 Core ( $130, Amazon) frequently goes on sale for just over $100 but if you want to use its rear buttons, you'll need to buy your own back paddles separately. But if you have some extra cash on hand, the Elite Series 2 just about justifies its high price. If you find the default Xbox controller perfectly good, there’s no real reason to pay three times as much, especially considering that the core design is identical. There’s also a superior grip, a removable D-pad cover, a rechargeable battery and even an optional set of back paddles that you can use as additional buttons.Īs to whether any of these features make a tremendous difference, it depends largely on your playstyle. Unlike the standard Xbox Wireless Controller, the Elite Series 2 lets you adjust the tension of the analog sticks and the trigger buttons. (For comparison purposes, an Xbox Series S - which comes with a standard Xbox controller - costs $300.) And yet, if you can stomach the cost, there’s an awful lot to like here. The Xbox Elite Series 2 controller is the most expensive model we evaluated, costing up to $180. Limited benefits over standard controller The best PC game controllers you can buy today ![]() Read on for our picks of the best PC game controllers, including the Xbox Wireless Controller and several other worthy contenders. Still though, there are other more specialized PC game controllers on this list worth considering as well. If you already own an Xbox Series X or Series S, a PS5 or a Nintendo Switch, you can try using one of the controllers you already own as they all work with PC either over Bluetooth or wired over USB. It’s also the most well supported controller on PC and most games are already optimized for it. While it can be difficult to know where to start or which device to choose when shopping for the best PC game controllers, Microsoft’s standard Xbox Series X/S controller is the best choice for most people at $60. Besides Bluetooth, PCs have plenty of extra USB ports for using a wired controller or a controller with a 2.4 GHz dongle for lower latency. Any thoughts on how I can get around it? I'm happy to hack/test a bit if it helps-I kinda know my way around code, but I'm not a developer.Unlike with the Xbox Series X, the PS5 or even the Nintendo Switch, PC is by far the most versatile when it comes to inputs. ![]() I'm really enjoying nestopia other than this one really annoying behavior. I tried commenting out all buttons besides A and B in both the nf and nf files, but this didn't seem to help either-the files were overwritten by the app on close anyway. I reviewed the conf files to see if there was anything undocumented. If I understood the changelog correctly, it seems the rewind functionality was mapped to a gamepad button in 1.49, so I built 1.48 in the hope that it would be similarly awesome to 1.49, but without the rewind issue-unfortunately 1.48 would only segfault every time I tried to load a ROM. I've tried remapping the controller buttons in the nestopia UI, but to no avail. I have experienced the same behavior regardless of whether I install nestopia from a repository or build it from source. (NOTE: I guess it could be prevented by not hitting the Y button, but I'm unironically using an NES emulator. This happens 100% of the time with every game I've tested, and cannot seem to be prevented, or interrupted. I'm on Fedora 29, though I don't suspect that'll be relevant.Įvery time my thumb accidentally hits the "Y" button on the controller, it causes nestopia to rewind the previous minute or so of whatever game I'm playing. It seems to have completely disappeared from their site, but I assume it's similar to their other controllers. ![]() I'm using nestopia 1.49 with an 8Bitdo NES30 controller-the one that looks nearly identical to a vintage NES controller, but has four buttons (A/B/X/Y) and connects via bluetooth. ![]()
